Hi Emma,

Thank you for continuing to challenge us! The 2nd part will certainly keep me entertained this week. One question... can we use alternative fingering? It makes it easier to go from high G to E (on a treble) and I tried alternative high F as well. Then I thought you might say not to as that avoids the cross fingering. I couldn't see what your fingers were doing as they were moving so fast! Could you advise so we practice it correctly?

Thanks so much

Sarah

Hi Sarah,
It depends if the alternative E is a fingering you tend to use - (and I take it you mean the fingering: left hand thumb and fingers 1 and 2?). I personally don't like that fingering so don't often use it, but I know some people use it a lot. If it's a fingering you do use, and you're used to using it, then I'd say practise with that fingering.
Good luck!
X Emma

Hi Emma,

The alternative E I use is thumb and LH fingers 2 and 3 (if you number fingers 1-4! Now, I am curious as to why you don't like alternative E. Therefore I am assuming you use the normal E - thumb and LH finger 1 in the exercises? So if we are talking about the same fingering, do you use another alternative for E if required?

Oops, sorry, I meant left hand fingers 2 and 3! I just don't like the fact that fingering changes the sound quality of the note so I don't use it very often. If I want the note to have a different timbre, then I use it. x
