Hi again, I promised I'd post some repertoire suggestions you could move onto with your new double tonguing skills!!  So, here are a few for you to try.  Good luck!  X Emma @ Recorder Helpdesk!
  • Sonata in D minor, 2nd movement - G. Finger

  • Sonata in A minor, 2nd and 4th movements - G. F. Handel
http://ks4.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/a/ae/IMSLP77400-PMLP156035-handel362sonata_4_.pdf
  • Sonata in F Major, 1st movement - G. P. Telemann
https://ks.imslp.net/files/imglnks/usimg/2/2e/IMSLP83012-PMLP169168-Telemann-Sonata_in_F_major,TWV_41_F_2.pdf
  • Trio Sonata No.3 in D minor, 2nd movement - D. Purcell
http://ks4.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/8/85/IMSLP587509-PMLP944315-D_Purcell_Trio_3.pdf

You can also play along with ME in the following video!  I have left the top part out for you to play on EITHER SOPRANO or ALTO recorder.  The music is below.  Two ERRORS in the score: Part 1, bar 26, 6th note should be a C instead of a D; and Part 2, bar 47, 1st note should be a C (tied over from bar 25).

If you enjoy this, then why not subscribe to my CONSORT WITH ME page.  I'd love to offer these for free, but it's so time consuming finding repertoire, links, recording all the parts & paying for the app to create them...(sorry!)  Details found here:

You play the TOP part on either a SOPRANO recorder or an ALTO recorder.  The score is reading up an octave, so here is a pdf of the ALTO part at pitch.

**NEW PDF FILES ADDED TO REPLACE THE JPEGS!**
Hello! We're here; we're at THE END of the DOUBLE TONGUING CHALLENGE!! WELL DONE everyone for persevering with it. I hope you've enjoyed it and now feel more confident and able to play at a faster speed. In this FINAL video, we're playing a movement from a solo sonata by VIVALDI, RV52. I've written out, and videoed, TWO versions: 1) in the original F Major for treble recorder, and 2) a transposed version in C Major for soprano/tenor recorder. I play the bass part along with you! Crotchet/Quarter note is 112. ENJOY! And GOOD LUCK! Let me know how you get on in the COMMENTS below. If you have any questions, PLEASE ASK! Watch this Space for more Blog posts and suggested repertoire for you to look at. Emma @ Recorder Helpdesk!

HELP!! with the double tonguing challenge video 6!

4/10/2020

Here are some TIPS to HELP with the Sammartini!! AND VIDEO 6b at the SLOWER SPEED of crotchet (quarter note) = 112!

I was asked a great question regarding BREATHING and NOT LOSING PACE. Here are some things TO TRY:
  1. There are RESTS where you want to breathe which is a great help.
  2. As you can hear from the video, I play it all very LIGHTLY so the quavers and crotchets (eighth and quarter notes) are quite short, so this gives you time to breathe.
  3. REMEMBER to take time off the note BEFORE a breath so the next beat/note is in time.
  4. It could be that your TONGUE is getting TIRED. Try practising the semiquaver passages (16th notes) like we did in the first three videos, and in Part 1 of the Exercises, where we didn’t play all the semiquavers to start with, but instead built up to that. For example, looking at the first three bars of the Sammartini, you could practise them like this:
  • i) Each of those bars as four semiquavers (16th notes) and a crotchet (quarter note), in order to be able to keep the speed up.
  • ii) Then switch that around to practise those bars as a crotchet (quarter note) followed by four semiquavers (16th notes).
  • iii) Then move onto playing eight semiquavers (16th notes) in bar 1, followed by two crotchets (quarter notes) in bar 2 and eight semiquavers (16th notes) in bar 3, and so on.
  • iv) Try practising all the semiquaver (16th note) passages like this.

I hope this helps!  Good luck with it!  Emma @ Recorder Helpdesk!

By the way, this hadn’t been the first ‘proper’ piece I had intended to move onto, but after thinking about it and its repeated notes, I thought it would be a fun one to work on over the Easter weekend. I promise the initial piece I had thought to move onto, in the next video, will be easier to get to grips with!
